Ken Wakui to Publish a Special Arc for Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers started on a promising note in March 2017, and now, after almost five years, the manga is finally ending. Being a popular one, the series’ end is highly anticipated even among anime-only fans.

In the latest chapter 277, Takemichi ends it all and saves everyone with his time-traveling powers. The manga will conclude next week with chapter 278 and the happiest and most wholesome finale ever.

However, knowing Wakui, we all are wondering if the manga has more to it.

The answer to that question is a big yes, as Ken Wakui is working towards a new special arc for Tokyo Revengers. This untitled storyline will be released in November 2023 at a large-scale exhibition in Roppongi, Tokyo.

The new arc will be in addition to the ‘Tokyo Revengers Extra’ chapter that will begin next week. This new plotline doesn’t necessarily mean a long story and can be an additional chapter or epilogue.

What bothers me is how this new unnamed story will be relevant a year after the finale.

For starters, the manga has already met with much criticism since its final arc began. Fans have realized that the manga has reached its saturation point and that Wakui is just stretching it unnecessarily.

Knowing this, Wakui bringing in another special arc seems like a bad idea. At the same time, if this storyline is good enough, it might change people’s negative views of it.

In terms of the story, Wakui has already given us much-needed closure, and ruining this perfect end would only welcome more criticism.

As we saw in chapter 277, Takemichi and Mickey have already saved everyone, and the future is filled with happy times. Changing such a satisfying end where all our favorites are alive would definitely be surprising and thrilling but also a big mistake.

Tokyo Revengers will end in the coming week on November 16 with an epilogue chapter featuring the most anticipated wedding of the series. What’s more is that the entire cast might be present at Takemichi and Hinata’s wedding, making it even more emotional.

If Wakui is planning to break out hearts by changing this perfect ending, I hope he has something much better lined up to compensate for it.

About Tokyo Revengers

Tokyo Revengers is a manga written and illustrated by Ken Wakui. It began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine on March 1, 2017, and ended its run in November 2022. It is compiled into 31 tankobon volumes.

The story revolves around Takemichi Hanagaki, who learned that Tokyo Manji Gang had killed his only ex-girlfriend from back in middle school. After learning about the incident, Takemichi was pushed from the railway platform.

Landing on the tracks, he closed his eyes, accepting his death, but when he opened his eyes, he had time-leaped 12 years into the past.
