Tokyo Revengers Live-Action Film Delayed Due to COVID

A popular manga often inspires animes and live-action movies. One such case was with Ken Wakui’s famous work, “Tokyo Revengers.” The manga had recently announced an anime adaptation for 2021 and a live-action film which is already in works.

Warner Bros official website and official Twitter account for the live-action Tokyo Revengers Film announced on Monday that the film, initially slated to be released on October 9 is delayed due to the spread of COVID-19.

The movie that was scheduled to be released on October 9th (Friday) #東京リベンジャーズ With regard to “,” we have decided to postpone the release date as a result of repeated studies in response to the domestic situation caused by the spread of the new coronavirus.

The tweet also revealed that the staff would announce the new release date once it has been decided.

The film was announced by Warner Bros in February with Tsutomu Hanabusa directing it. The following cast was chosen to play characters from the manga:

  • Takumi Kitamura as Takemichi Hanagaki
  • Yuki Yamada as Ken Ryūgūji
  • Yosuke Sugino as Naoto Tachibana
  • Nobuyuki Suzuki as Masataka Shimizu
  • Hayato Isomura as Atsushi Sendō
  • Shotaro Mamiya as Tetta Kisaki
  • Ryō Yoshizawa as Manjirō Sano

The film slated to premiere on October 9 had to stop production in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The story revolves around Takemichi Hanagaki, who learned that Tokyo Manji Gang had killed his only ex-girlfriend from back in middle school. After learning about the incident, Takemichi was pushed from the railway platform.

Landing on the tracks, he closed his eyes, accepting his death, but when he opened his eyes, he had time-leaped 12 into the past. Finding that he had traveled back to a time when he was dating Hinata Tachibana, he decides to infiltrate the Tokyo Manji Gang and climb the ranks to rewrite the future and prevent Hinata’s death.
