In chapter 179, Emma relieves the others by saying that all the humans could return to their own world without a price to pay to the demon god. This chapter was a very controversial one as the demon god was portrayed as a soft-hearted being, and the ending seemed rushed and illogical.

However, chapter 180 shows us that Emma had deceived everyone, and the reward for being paid was her memory of her family. The demon god’s condition was to take away her memories and separate her from everyone else.

As was promised, Emma woke up in a far-off land from the rest of the children. She was discovered by an old man who gave her shelter. Days pass by as Emma stays with the man and cannot remember anything except for vague, faceless dreams about her past. The demon god has been as merciless as they suspected and took “everything” from Emma.

On the other hand, Ray, Norman, and all the children and their accomplices have made up their minds to find Emma. They have set out around the world to somehow bring her back.

On the very last page of the book, Emma is visiting a market with the man who gave her shelter. We get a glimpse of Ray, Gilda, and Phil at the same market, searching for Emma. Will they come face to face with each other? Or will Emma live a life of her own with a new name and a new identity?
