Izumi Matsumoto, the mangaka of Kimagure Orange Road, passed away on Oct 6th. Wave Studio announced his death on the Comic-On website.

On Nov 3rd, 2019, it was revealed that he had been diagnosed with spinal stenosis. He had said that it began with legs' numbness several years ago.

He was prescribed sleeping pills, but the numbness was so severe, the sleeping pills were ineffective. “Sleeping has become scary every night.”

He gave up drawing manga in 1999. He returned to walk in fall 2005, and he kept suffering from the after-effects of the illness and seizures.

It was stated in Nov 2016 that Matsumoto’s condition was “growing worse,” and that he experienced seizures.

He was scared of undergoing surgery as it was expensive. He planned to resume his activities after fighting against the disease for two years.

However, he lost his battle against Cerebrospinal Fluid Hypovolemia. According to his doctor, he passed away while sleeping, without suffering.
