COVID-19 Pandemic Cited as Cause

HorribleSubs, a pirating website for downloading subbed anime, shut down earlier today with a farewell message that was posted on the official website.
The reason given by the HorribleSubs team is that the shut down was a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The website was run by individuals.
HorribleSubs was one of the fastest uploaders of seasonal anime and they had uploaded the summer 2020 anime releases before shutting down.
KissAnime and KissManga were shut down in August this year due to Japan’s renewed copyright policies.
