The Demon Slayer franchise released a one-shot on the 4th of October, based on Rengoku and his first mission. The one shot reveals his painful past.
The chapter starts with Rengoku, the son of a famed Flame Hashira, hearing harsh words from his father just as he was about to leave on his first mission.
His father declares that he and his brother lack the skills to replace him as the Flame Hashira. This portrays the tense bond between the father and son.
The subsequent panels show the first mission where Rengoku sees nine of his comrades die valiantly in the battle against a dangerous demon.
Their deaths made him understand his father's words and he vows to become stronger to protect the weak and become admirable like his father.
