Star Wars-verse: Host of Star Wars Shows to Land on Disney+

If you are a Star Wars fan and you have not subscribed to Disney+ yet, now might be the perfect time to do so. The streaming platform just announced eight different reasons for Star Wars fans to jump on the wagon – Disney+ has greenlit Obi-Wan Kenobi, Willow and six other shows! What’s more, some of the new shows will come out as early as next year.

As part of Disney’s Investor Day announcements, Disney+ revealed that it is planning to expand the Star Wars universe after the massive success of The Mandalorian. Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka, two of the new shows, will tie-in with The Mandalorian and culminate to a “climactic story event,” according to creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

Rangers of the New Republic will follow the New Republic soldiers, who were previously seen on The Mandalorian, and will be set within the latter’s timeline. The limited series Ahsoka will revolve around Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice.

Diego Luna is reprising his role as Andor from the Star Wars: Rogue One movie, in the eponymously titled spy thriller series, which will also star Stellan Skarsgard, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Genevieve O’Reilly.

An animated series, following the experimental clones of the Bad Batch after The Clone Wars, called Star Wars: The Bad Batch, has also been ordered by the streaming site. Also, another new series will be about the galaxy’s beloved con man Lando Calrissian, which is being developed by Justin Simien.

Set a few decades after Ron Howard’s movie, Willow, the series, will continue in the spirit of the 1988 film and will follow the adventures of farmer/conjurer Willow Ufgood. Harry Potter alum, Warwick Davis who previously played the role in the film, is scheduled to return to the role. Willow will debut on the platform in 2022.

Another series, The Acolyte, has been ordered too. It will explore the last days of the High Republic era and the rising secrets and the powers that led to the end of the golden age.

The iconic Obi-Wan Kenobi is returning with his own show. The live-action series will see Ewan McGregor return as the Jedi master and will pick up ten years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Hayden Christensen is also coming back to the series as the legendary antagonist Darth Vader. The series starts filming early next year.

In addition to these shows, Disney+ also announced that a third season of The Mandalorian has been ordered, which will debut for Christmas 2021.

With so many new shows coming up, all we can say is that it is an excellent time to be a Star Wars fan!
