The video on-demand and live streaming service made the announcement on July 1 that the latest Star Trek spin off has been developed by the Emmy Award winner Mike McMahan (“Rick and Morty,” “Solar Opposites”). It also released a series’ teaser art on the occasion.

The show focuses on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, set in the year 2380.

Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi have to keep up with their duties and social lives, even as the ship is being rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.

Star Trek: Lower Decks is the first animated series to join the Star Trek franchise on CBS All Access.

The platform is also the exclusive home to the hit original series STAR TREK: PICARD, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and the recently announced STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS.

In fact, another CG-animated Star Trek series aimed at the younger audiences is also in the works for Nickelodeon.

The Starfleet crew residing in the “lower decks” of the U.S.S. Cerritos, which is how it gets its name, includes many big names.
