Spider-man beats 007

Spider-Man: Far From Home is the highest-grossing Sony movie now. The latest Spider-Man movie has grossed $1.109 Billion and has overtaken the 2012 James Bond release Skyfall, which made $1.108 Billion.

The Sony-Marvel deal for Spider-Man has turned out to be extremely profitable for Sony. Sony Pictures owns the rights to Spider-Man and related characters and the deal between Sony and Marvel studios allows Marvel to include Spiderman in their universe while Sony makes all the money. The film is the first Spider-Man movie to reach this mark and has beat its predecessor Spider-Man Homecoming by a long shot.

Spiderman: Far From Home was released two months after Avengers: Endgame and showed us the effect of the Tony Stark death on the world. It also served as the ending of Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3 and the Infinity Saga.

The Box office records of Marvel Studios have been just phenomenal this year. Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing movie of all time. Captain Marvel, and Spiderman: Far From Home all grossed above $1 Billion. Spiderman also happens to be just $ 20 million shy of Captain Marvel’s all-time gross.

The lastest web-slinger movie is also getting a re-release

A directorial cut of the movie will reportedly be released in theatres over the Labor day weekend in the US. The movie is expected to have four minutes of deleted action-sequences. This is an excellent opportunity for those who missed the web-slinger in theatres to go and catch up with it.

With the re-release, the movie is expected to surpass the all-time grossing of Captain-Marvel. Spider-Man’s future was somewhat unpredictable. Sony owns the character rights for Spider-Man, and there were disputes between Marvel and Sony.

Finally, after a lot of waiting and patience, the present deal was worked out and we got to see the much-awaited characters on the big screen. Sony got a double advantage from the deal as it had failed to make good Spider-Man movies itself, and are now in a more commanding position.
