Showtime Cancels Jim Carrey’s ‘Kidding’

The Jim Carrey starred Showtime series, Kidding, has been cancelled after two seasons. In a statement issued by Showtime, the cable network confirmed that after 2 very successful seasons, the critically acclaimed and rewarding series will not be returning for a third season.

The story of the beloved children’s show saw a successful conclusion at the end of season 2, earlier this year. Here’s everything we know.

Two wonderful seasons

“After two seasons, Kidding has concluded its run on Showtime… we would like to thank Jim Carrey, Dave Holstein, Michael Aguilar, Michel Gondry and the entire cast and crew for their brilliant and tireless work,” Showtime added in the statement.

The half-hour dark comedy served as Carrey’s return to TV after a nearly three-decade absence.

The series reunited Carrey with his Oscar-winning Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind writer-director Gondry.

What’s it about

As per official synopsis:

Mr. Jeff Pickle is an icon of children’s TV, a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds who have grown up watching his show.

He is also the anchor of a multimillion-dollar branding empire. But when his family, consisting of his wife, two sons, sister and father, begins to implode, Jeff distances himself from his puppets to make it through this crisis.

But the storms are much bigger than he is prepared for and by the end of it, a kind man in a cruel world goes through a slow loss of sanity that is as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.

What’s to love

Kidding was the latest piece of art from the master artist Jim Carrey. He was seen in a whole new avatar as an elderly icon of the masses, especially the younger ones, who slowly becomes the exact opposite of what he preaches all along.

The show is once again in line with Carrey’s own message as an artist that what you see is not what there is.

The award-winning actor has always pushed the boundaries of people’s minds about the mad power of the Idiot Box.

He also outdid himself as an actor, looking so comfortable in the skin of an ageing star on the verge of losing his sanity.

The show would have done well to continue for another season, but then it didn’t. I want to watch Mr Pickles again just talking about him! Ok, I’m off. You guys can comment below meanwhile and let us know if you too think the cancellation was sort of unnecessary?
