Reincarnated As A Sword Anime Series To Take Isekai Into New Horizons

First, you reincarnated as a hero, then you became slime, but a brave soul out there asked, “Why limit ourselves to living beings?” 

So here we have a pioneer in the isekai genre, “Reincarnated as a Sword.” An anime about a man (and say it with me) who reincarnates as a sword in a fantasy world.

The manga publisher Gentosha announced that Yuu Tanaka and LLO’s “Reincarnated as a Sword” light novel series would be receiving an anime adaptation. The novel illustrator LLO, alongside the series’ manga artists, also shared three congratulatory illustrations.

As for the story, we follow Fran, who was captured by slave traders and put in chains. But when a monster attacks her caravan, she chances upon a magical Sword and defeats the beast and slavers.

After quickly forming a connection, the Sword and the catgirl set out on a journey together.

As of now, there has been no information about the anime’s release date or the studio behind it, but we expect updates in the coming weeks.

“Reincarnated as a Sword” has also received two manga adaptations, one by Tomowo Maruyama covering the main story and another by Hinako Inoue, a spinoff.

With this anime adaptation, isekai is truly entering untested waters and opens plenty of opportunities for more night novel adaptations that are even crazier. So, don’t be shocked when “Reborn as a Vending Machine” gets anime.

About Reincarnated as a Sword

Also known as TenKen, it is a Japanese light novel series written by Yuu Tanaka and illustrated by Llo. It started as a web novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in October 2015.

The plot revolves around a person who finds himself in another world reincarnated as a sword after dying in the human world. He has no recollection of his name but weirdly remembers everything else from his life as a human. Accepting his fate, he looks for someone who can own him.

A catgirl slave named Fran soon discovers the sword, uses it to kill a two-headed bear, and gives it the name “Teacher”. The duo then embarks on an adventure.
