Parasyte the Maxim is Now Available on Netflix, Watch Now!

Season 1 of Parasyte – The Maxim anime was released on Netflix on May, 15 and it was a pleasant surprise for us. Being stuck in this indefinite lockdown, now is the best time to check it out.

Netflix describes the series as:

“A teenager battles an onslaught of parasites from space with help from Migi, a docile parasitic creature that’s taken over his right hand.”

The anime’s season 1 has 24 episodes, and you are sure to get engrossed in its captivating story. The anime is an adaptation of the manga Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki.

It was published by Kodansha and originally ran in the Morning Open Zōkan magazine before switching to the Monthly Afternoon.

It consisted of 10 volumes and was republished in North America by Kodansha Comics. It ran from 1988-1995. The series also won the Kodansha Manga Award(1993, general) and the Seiun Award(1996, the best manga of the year).

Parasyte – The Maxim (anime) was written by Shōji Yonemura, directed by Kenichi Shimizu and produced by Studio Madhouse. It also had Tadashi Hiramatsuwas for character design and music by Ken Arai.

It originally aired from October 2014 to March 2015. The series also has 2 Live-Action films. Crunchyroll streamed the anime outside of Asia.

The opening theme of the anime is “Let Me Hear” performed by Japanese band, Fear, and loathing in Las Vegas. “It’s the Right Time” is the closing theme performed by Daichi Miura.

The fans who have already finished season one are eager to get a second one, but it seems highly unlikely. The conclusion of the first season was in sync with the conclusion of the manga that had ended way back in 1995. So producing a second season would mean basing it on a completely new plot.

About Parasyte

Parasyte is a manga of the sci-fi, horror, and psychological genre, which is even grim at times. The story is about a certain species of a parasite-like alien creature that needs a human host to survive.

These creatures also slowly consume the host. But once they have taken over a human body, they can wreak havoc by manifesting ghastly features like blades, demon-wings, huge teeth, etc.

The life of a high school boy, Shinichi changes as his right hand is taken over by one such parasite named Migi. But Shinichi fights for control over his own body and tries to save the world from being thrown into utter chaos.

The portrayal of the battle scenes and the conflicts between humans and aliens is very graphically represented. And this seems to attract the horror enthusiast amongst us.
