Netflix’s One Piece Live-Action Series to Set Sail in 2023

Hollywood live-actions are the worst thing that can happen to an anime or manga series, and it is no wonder that fans absolutely dread these adaptations. The latest victim to this by Netflix is none other than the greatest story of all time, One Piece.

The project was first mentioned in 2017, and fans have been scared ever since. However, it might be different this time as the promotional media spark some form of hope in us.

Netflix has revealed a new key visual for the One Piece live-action series featuring Luffy and confirming its 2023 debut. In the distance, you can also spot News Coo towards the beautiful horizon.

Even with Oda’s involvement as the series’ executive producer, fans still doubt how the show might turn out. We know there’s no need to be worried since Oda Sensei is overlooking the whole project, but the anime industry’s past with live actions has not been pretty.

From Death Note to Dragon Ball, Hollywood live-actions have done nothing but disappoint to the point that they look like the series’ parody. Although, there’s a possibility that this trend may change with One Piece’s arrival on the scene.

Moreover, Netflix has given the option to set reminders on the platform for the series release. The reminder window features a similar visual, with Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji overlooking the horizon and Going Merry with Luffy.

This visual is inspired by the ‘eye-catch’ or cut scenes for commercial breaks that were shown in the early episodes of the anime.

About One Piece

One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997.

The man who had acquired everything in this world, the Pirate King, is Gol D. Roger. The final words he said at the execution tower were “My treasures? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it; I left all of it at that place.” These words sent many to the seas, chasing their dreams, headed toward the Grand Line, in search of One Piece. Thus began a new age!

Seeking to be the greatest pirate in the world, young Monkey D. Luffy also heads toward the Grand Line in search of One Piece. His diverse crew is joining him along the way, consisting of a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright, this will be one memorable adventure.
