One Piece Film Red Anime Earns Over 19 Billion Yen After 157 Days
On January 10, the official website for the One Piece Film Red anime revealed that the film has sold over 13.79 million tickets and has earned over 19 billion yen in the Japanese box office as of January 10.
The One Piece film has managed to sell these many tickets in only 157 days of its run. To commemorate this achievement, the manga creator Eiichiro Oda drew a visual that depicts Zoro and Sanji in a wanted poster, with the film’s earnings written on the poster instead of a bounty amount.
The film topped the Japanese box office for 2022 in terms of yen earned and tickets sold. The film opened in Japanese theaters on August 6, 2022 and its run in theaters will end on January 29.
The film was released by Crunchyroll in the United States and Canada on November 4, and in Australia and New Zealand on November 3.
The film has become the franchise’s highest-selling and highest-earning film, in terms of number of tickets sold as well as yen earned at the box office. The anime is both the #6 all-time highest-earning anime film in Japan and the #9 all-time highest-earning film in Japan.
The film focuses on a new character named Uta, who is Shank’s daughter. The character is voiced by Kaori Nazuka and Ado voices the character for the songs. The film’s theme song “Shinjidai” is also performed by Ado.
The film’s director is Goro Taniguchi and screenwriter is Tsutomu Kuroiwa. The creator of the One Piece manga Eiichiro Oda served as the executive producer for the film.
