On January 30, the official website for the One Piece Film Red anime announced that the film has sold over 14.27 million tickets and has earned over 19.7 billion yen at the Japanese box office as of January 29, its 177th and final day in theaters.
The film has now surpassed Howl’s Moving Castle as the #5 highest-earning anime film in Japan. The film has also surpassed Howl’s Moving Castle as the #4 highest-earning anime film globally.
To commemorate this achievement, the manga creator Eiichiro Oda drew a visual that depicts Luffy in a wanted poster but with the film’s earnings instead of a bounty amount.
The film is the #8 highest-earning film of all time in Japan. The film topped the Japanese box office for 2022 in terms of yen earned and tickets sold. The film opened in Japanese theaters on August 6, 2022.
The film was released by Crunchyroll in the United States and Canada on November 4, and in Australia and New Zealand on November 3.
The film has become the franchise’s highest-selling and highest-earning film in terms of the number of tickets sold as well as yen earned at the box office. The anime is both the #6 all-time highest-earning anime film in Japan and the #9 all-time highest-earning film in Japan.
The film focuses on a new character named Uta, who is Shank’s daughter. The character is voiced by Kaori Nazuka and Ado voices the character for the songs. The film’s theme song “Shinjidai” is also performed by Ado.
The film’s director is Goro Taniguchi and the screenwriter is Tsutomu Kuroiwa. The creator of the One Piece manga Eiichiro Oda served as the executive producer for the film.
