One Piece Episodes Delayed – Anime On Indefinite Hiatus Due To COVID-19 Pandemic

Last week Mayumi Tanaka, the voice actress for Monkey D. Luffy, uploaded a blog video announcing that her voice recording sessions have been halted to implement social distancing.

This meant that at some point in the not too distant future, One Piece would have to hakt new episodes. It looks like that time has come sooner than expected.

@OPcom_info, the official account for One Piece, Tweeted that the episode release is being stopped for the foreseeable future. The announcement also mentioned that older episodes, starting episode 892, will be broadcast in the One Piece time slot.

In order to give maximum consideration to the spread of new coronavirus infection, we have decided to suspend the broadcasting of the new “One Piece” for the time being.

From April 26th (Sun), “One Piece” (Wano Kuni ed., Episode 892) will be rebroadcast for the time being. We will inform you as soon as it is decided that the broadcast of “One Piece” will resume (starting from episode 930).

Spoiler Alert

One Piece released episode 929, titled “Conciliation of Prisoners – Luffy and Grandpa Hyo!” on April 19. The episode shows the scenes from the prison in Udon where Luffy is being kept.

This comes as unfortunate news to the manga readers as “Grandpa Hyo” was about to be introduced into the story as the legendary Hyogoro the Flower, which meant the story would become more streamlined. The focus would be on Luffy’s training for some time.

The episode shows Kanjuro meeting up with Shinobu’s group in Ringo. The news about Komurasaki’s death spreads like wildfire throughout the nation, and her funeral will be held soon.

About One Piece

One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997, and has been collected into 95 tankōbon volumes.

The man who had acquired everything in this world, the Pirate King, is Gol D. Roger. The final words he said at the execution tower were “My treasures? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it; I left all of it at that place.” These words sent many to the seas, chasing their dreams, headed toward the Grand Line, in search of One Piece. Thus began a new age!

Seeking to be the greatest pirate in the world, young Monkey D. Luffy also heads toward the Grand Line in search of One Piece. With his diverse crew joining him along the way, consisting of a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright, this will be one memorable adventure.
