But, as we all know, One Piece is known to break expectations, and this time, it’s for a higher cause (pun intended). Eiichiro Oda’s culture-defining series is a giant in both the manga and anime industries.

Known for its theme of adventure and exploration, it comes as no surprise that the Japanese space agency partnered with One Piece for a special occasion.

In the Weekly Shonen Jump issue #33-34, 2021, One Piece will be collaborating with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Additionally, a special cover for the magazine was also illustrated by Eiichiro Oda.

This exciting collaboration has resulted in the unique Luffy visual front and center on the magazine cover.

Luffy is depicted wearing his iconic straw hat and a blue jumpsuit with his name, “Monkey D. Luffy” stitched on the breast pocket with the JAXA logo.

He is depicted saluting the readers with the Japanese flag on his right arm. Additionally, even the One Piece logo has a space theme.

Further information about the collaboration is inside the magazine, so grab yourself a copy if you can.

JAXA is being lauded worldwide for its Hayabusa2 spacecraft that gathered samples of asteroid Ryugu. The collaboration is also on the backs of the recent uptick in space travel because of the Virgin Galactic space flight and Amazon’s Blue Origin.

Such a collaboration is sure to motivate young minds to be inspired by the essence of adventure and exploration shown by Luffy and aim them towards the sky.

About One Piece

One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997.

The man who had acquired everything in this world, the Pirate King, is Gol D. Roger. The final words he said at the execution tower were “My treasures? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it; I left all of it at that place.” These words sent many to the seas, chasing their dreams, headed toward the Grand Line, in search of One Piece. Thus began a new age!

Seeking to be the greatest pirate in the world, young Monkey D. Luffy also heads toward the Grand Line in search of One Piece. His diverse crew is joining him along the way, consisting of a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright, this will be one memorable adventure.
