No More Castle Rock: Hulu Cancels Horror Series

After nearly a year of silence on the development of a new season of Castle Rock, Hulu has announced that the supernatural drama series has been cancelled. Castle Rock debuted on Hulu in 2018 and had two moderately successful seasons. While it has been reported that the decision to end the show had been made last year, many are blaming the coronavirus pandemic for the cancellation.

All networks and streaming services have been stringent in renewing old shows because of limited funds and even limited time. As a result, many shows, some of which were fan-favorites, have been axed by the networks and Castle Rock is another casualty of that.

Castle Rock is set in and around Maine, the state where most of Stephen King’s books are based. Each season revolves around a new story that is a combination of the author’s best-known stories, with many references to the Stephen King multiverse.

The first season tells the story of Henry Deaver (played by André Holland), a death-row attorney, who comes back to his hometown Castle Rock after being requested to represent The Kid (played by the devilishly charming Bill Skarsgard), an inmate of the Shawshank prison. Another important character in the first season was Jackie Torrance (played by Jane Levy), niece of The Shining’s Jack Torrance.
