Netflix Will Release Greek Mytho Spin-off “Kaos” Straight From Olympus

To all the Joseph Campbell fans, here is another mythological spin-off from Netflix. In a quiet affair this week, the platform put out a landing page for its latest series Kaos with a rather discreet bio to go with.

“This genre-bending series puts a modern twist on Greek and Roman mythology, exploring themes of gender, politics, power, and life in the underworld.”

What To Expect From Kaos?

According to reports, Netflix had announced over two years ago about its order of a 10-episode “darkly comic reimagining of Greek mythology” titled Kaos, from creator-writer Charlie Covell.

Covell had earlier worked on the streamer’s excellent adaptation of The End of the F***ing World.

“It’s basically like a contemporary reimagining of Greek Mythology, so it’s a big show,” creator Covell told RadioTimes.com in October. “It’s a 10-hour series for Netflix, and hopefully with a kind of Game of Thrones scale — but tonally it should [feel] End of the World-y, in terms of its humor and its soundtrack and the look of it.”

The series will play out across three worlds: the Gods, the Earth, and the Underworld.

“We start with Orpheus and Eurydice, the gods are like a massively dysfunctional family. It should be funny and dark and sad,” Covell explained.

Kaos will join the likes of The Witcher and Stranger Things on the platform while its bio sounds like a cross between Percy Jackson, Game of Thrones, and Shameless.

Explaining the inspiration behind the show’s look, he added, “One of the big steers for me was the Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet as a look.”

All3Media and Brightstar will produce the series alongside Netflix. Unfortunately, that’s just about all that is known about the show at this point. Netflix is yet to announce any official casting, plot details, characters, or even a release date.

While the coronavirus pandemic has halted film and TV production worldwide, the show’s new landing page does say that the series will arrive in 2020.
