Netflix to Stream Cardcaptor Sakura Anime in U.S., Canada on June 1

On Monday, 18th May, Netflix made an announcement on its Twitter account that from 1st June, it will stream the English dubbed version of the anime Cardcaptor Sakura in the United States and Canada.

Netflix chose to stream the Animax dubbed version, which was an excellent choice. There are totally 3 English dubbed versions of the anime.

First is the Nelvana version, done in collaboration with Ocean studios, which significantly changes the story and omits out same-sex relationships among characters.

Next is the Funimation dub, which is better than the Nelvana version and causes fewer changes to the story. Still, these changes are enough to set off fans who have watched the original version.

The Animax Asia dub is the closest to the original version, with very few minor tweaks. It is the best watch among the three. For those who don’t have Netflix, there is nothing to worry about as it is still streaming on Crunchyroll and Funimation.

The manga was adapted into an anime by Madhouse Inc. and aired from April 1998 to March 2000 on the NHK BS2 channel.

An anime film, Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie, debuted in 1999 in Japan. It was followed by another film, Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card in 2000.

There is also a sequel to the series written and illustrated again by CLAMP named Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card, which was serialized in 2016 in Nakayoshi magazine.

It was also adapted into an anime, and it aired from January till June 2018. This series was streamed by Crunchyroll and Funimation.

We hope Netflix will stream the rest of the Cardcaptor Sakura franchise in the near future as well.
