NBC’s Dateline Season 29 Announced, More Info

NBC’s favourite and by far the oldest news magazine series, Dateline, has been renewed for a new season. Given the immense chaos and turmoil in the country, the renewal is timely.

The award-winning NBC show Dateline is ready with its 2020-21 edition. For what it’s worth, this one will mark the show’s 28 years of news coverage for the American audience.

Ever since its premiere in 1992, the NBC show has been hosted by a number of anchors including the popular Katie Couric and is currently headlined by Lesler Holt.

However, the underlying motivation of the show to cover the best of news stories from mysteries to documentaries and also in-depth investigations has remained a constant.

Given how long the show has been on the air, it now boasts of an extensive archive of in-depth news and investigative stories. In its syndicated format, viewers can once again watch some of the show’s best content from the years past including some of the greatest real-life mysteries.

Cases involving murders and missing people are frequent topics on the series that has won multiple Emmys in the news and documentary category.

With a focus on the softer, human interest stories, Dateline stands out among other news magazines in the US with its stories focusing on individuals instead of larger international and national stories.

This NBC flagship news magazine usually focuses on a single story with a crime angle throughout its one-hour average run.

However, the show’s creators had got into major trouble back in 1992, just after starting out, for fabricating an expose against the car manufacturer Chevrolet.

The last season’s Friday editions scored an average 0.56 rating in the 18-49 demographic gathering 3.59 million viewers. Compared to the Friday episodes of season 27, that’s down by 1% in the demo but the viewership is up by 7%.

Current anchor Holt is joined by many NBC correspondents like Andrea Canning, Hoda Kotb, Josh Mankiewicz, Keith Morrison, and Dennis Murphy. Along the years, other contributing anchors include Willie Geist, Natalie Morales, Meredith Vieira, Kate Snow, and Craig Melvin.
