Detective Conan, also known as Case Closed, is a Japanese detective manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama.
The literary work has been published in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Sunday since 1994 and has been compiled into 98 independent volumes as of April 2020.
The franchise received an anime adaptation by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and TMS Entertainment, which launched in January 1996.
Crunchyroll and TMS Entertainment announced through a press release that Season 1 of Detective Conan’s anime series is now available on Crunchyroll.
Gosho Aoyama’s Detective Conan manga series focuses on detective Shinichi Kudo who uses the alias Conan Edogawa after he is poisoned, resulting in his body transforming back into a child.
Accompanied by detective Kogoro Mori and his daughter Ran, Conan helps the police solve difficult mysteries while figuring out a way to turn himself back to normal.
Both Crunchyroll and TMS Entertainment have listed the first season of the series to have episodes 1-42.
However, Crunchyroll’s streaming service shows that the first 43 episodes will stream, with the two-part episodes 11 and 12 recognized as a single episode.
The anime will stream with subtitles in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, and Arabic.
Crunchyroll’s relationship with the Detective Conan franchise began in 2014 as it started streaming new episodes of the anime TV series in October 2014, beginning with episode 754.
The first 104 episodes of the series were licensed by Funimation in 2003 under the title, “Case Closed”.
The American entertainment company also released 130 episodes of Detective Conan on DVD until 2018, when their rights to the series expired and the series is no longer available on Funimation’s streaming service.
In January 2018, Crunchyroll had added Funimation’s licensed 130 anime episodes of Detective Conan. When Funimation’s license expired, Crunchyroll removed these episodes.
