With tons of action scenes and special power-wielding spirits, the manga is ripe for being made into an anime. That wish is finally coming true.

The series holds many similarities to Mushishi, except it’s a lot less peaceful.

Onigunso’s Mononogatari manga is being adapted into an anime. The author has also drawn two new illustrations to celebrate the animation’s decision.

The first illustration shows Botan and Hyoma, the two protagonists in the foreground. The ones in the background are a group of sinister tsukumogami who hunt others of their own kind.

In the second illustration, we can see all the tsukumogami who live with Botan. They have lived with her for years and have bonded with her. From childish to cute to tsundere, you can find a wide range of spirits in her home.

Although the name of the manga is treacherously close to the Monogatari series, they are poles apart. Rather, the tsukumogami can be somewhat compared to the mushi in Mushishi manga.

Tsukumogami are spirits who possess aged objects and have been hostile to Hyoma in the past. He is thus opposed to them. Yet, he is punished to spend time with them at Botan’s house where his first visit was fraught with tension.

Thus begins the life of a girl who loves tsukumogami and a guy who hates them. Living under the same roof might be difficult, but maybe the upcoming anime will prove the spirits’ worth to Hyoma.
