Marvel Films that Remain AWOL on Disney+ Even Today, and Why

With a streaming platform of its own, Disney has been steadfast in gathering a commendable number of titular films and shows in the last six months.

As the exclusive streamer of the Star Wars franchise, Disney is also looking at the superhero universes to push their blockbuster films on Disney+.

However, some crucial titles from Marvel Comic Universe, the largest grossing studio in history, remain missing from Disney+ even today.

While some of these titles are stuck on Netflix due to deals struck before Disney+ was launched, others require Disney to strike a deal with producers of the film to share their distribution rights.

Here’s the list of films that are currently streaming on Netflix and will soon arrive on Disney+ include Ant-Man and the Wasp, Avengers: Infinity War, and Thor Ragnarok.

Ant-Man will leave Netflix in July; the rest will do so a month earlier in June. You can expect them to arrive on Disney+ around the same time. Also on the list was Black Panther, which left Netflix this March and is now available to stream on Disney+ premium.

The list of films that are missing from Disney+ due to rights issues includes Spider-Man Far From Home, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and The Incredible Hulk.

Both the Spider-Man films were produced by Sony, who exclusively own the rights to the franchise as long as it releases a film every five years. Disney has already signed an MoU with Sony for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films.

Another contract will have to be inked to bring the ones listed above aboard as well.

Meanwhile, the distribution rights of The Incredible Hulk were retained by Universal Studios. Universal had co-produced the film along with Marvel Studios way back in 2008.

Now, there is little to no chance of seeing this film on Disney+ unless Disney signs a contract with Universal.
