Kodansha Manga Awards Winners Announced, Check out the Winners!

Kodansha Manga Awards is an annual award for the best-serialized manga in the Kodansha magazines of the previous year.

Currently, it is awarded for three main genres: shounen, shoujo and general.

Kodansha is a huge Japanese production company and that gives further gravitas to the prestige of this award. The prize for the winners is a certificate, a bronze statuette and 1 million ¥.

The Annual Kodansha Awards have announced the winners: Tokyo Revengers, Our Precious Conversations, and The Blue Period for shounen, shojo and general, respectively.

Best Shounen Manga

Nominations: SPY×FAMILY, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Tokyo Revengers, and Smile Down the Runway.

Winner: Tokyo Revengers by Ken Wakui.

Plot: Takemichi, a 26-year-old unemployed man, wakes up to the news of his ex-girlfriend (Hinata Tachibana) having been murdered by a gang. He lives a miserable life with people younger than him ordering him around.

Suddenly, he is transported to the past when he was still in middle school. Takemichi decides that he has to set everything right and rise from the rock bottom that he had hit. He needs to save his ex-girlfriend and for that, he has to claw his way up the most dangerous gang of Kanto.

It was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in March 2017.

Best Shoujo Manga

Nominations: Kageki Shōjo!!, Our Precious Conversations, Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight, and A Condition Called Love.

Winner: Our Precious Conversations by Robico.

Plot: This is a sweet love story of two awkward teenagers, Nozomi Aizawa and Azuma Shirou. Aizawa confesses her love to Azuma after hiding it for a long time only to get far from the ordinary answer.

This manga revolves around the refreshing story of these teens who go through misunderstandings, reconciliations, and inconsequential rants. They understand each other and themselves more as time goes by. It debuted in Dessert magazine in August 2015.

Best General Manga

Nominations: Skip to Loafer, Witch Hat Atelier, The Blue Period, and Do not say mystery.

Winner: The Blue Period by Tsubasa Yamaguchi.

Plot: The Blue Period revolves around the life of Yataro Yaguchi, a highschool student. Yataro looks like a model student on the outside but fights with hollowness on the inside.

He is fascinated by a painting of the Art club and decides to take up art as a profession. His path is filled with obstacles, but he still expresses himself proudly with colors instead of words. It was first serialized in Afternoon magazine in June 2017.
