Kakushigoto, an ongoing comedy manga which has been serialized in Kodansha’s shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Magazine since December 2015 is about to premiere in 2020. This was announced just before the release of its 10th Volume by the magazines’ Twitter handle.
It will be the 4th manga by the author which gets an anime adaptation following Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei, Katte ni Kaizo and Joshiraku. On Thursday, just before the tenth volume hit stores, the magazine posted news of the anime on its official Twitter page.
“Kakusogo, Vol. 10, Koji Kumeda, released on November 15, 2019 [TV animation will be decided!!],” the publication tweeted. “In January of 2020 /’Monthly Shonen Magazine’ (released on December 6, 2019), there is a detailed report on the TV animation!”
Although it is not the first time, the manga got animated, in fact back in 2016 an anime production studio called SHAFT created a short promo video for Kakushigoto. The studio is also responsible for anime adaptations of Kumeta’s previous works as well.
The manga can be summarized as a daily soap comedy based on the relationship between a father and his daughter. The father is a manga artist who draws mature content and therefore tries to hide his work from his daughter because the truth might make her hate him. The official series synopsis reads:
“Kakushi Goto is a manga author who has been drawing a little vulgar series in a weekly magazine. The most important thing for him is his only daughter, Hime, but he does not want her to learn that he is a manga artist. Because if she finds out about his work, she might hate him. With help from his assistants and editor, he tries to pass his days without revealing his secret to her.”
Fun Fact: Crunchyroll, a global famous anime streaming service, noted that the series’ title contains a double meaning which actually means “A Secret” or “Drawing Job”.
