Creator of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Reveals Origins of ‘Jojo’

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, created in 1987, is a fan favourite anime franchise which has been a source of a great deal of entertainment (and memes) for viewers all over the world.

Recently, Hirohiko Araki, the man responsible for this beautiful anime shed some light on the naming of the Title. In an ongoing anime convention, called the Lucca Convention, hosted in Lucca, Italy, Hirohiko Araki was a part of a convention panel. On being prompted by a fan, he talked about his indecisiveness regarding the naming of “JoJo”.

@omitaichi tweeted out the statement from Araki at the panel:

This fun bit of trivia helps the fanbase connect more to the author and the franchise. It seems like a rather silly way to name the character, but Araki struck gold with his idea of alliteration and put out this fantastic series.

About JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure:

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1987 to 2004 and in monthly seinen manga magazine Ultra Jump since 2005. The series is divided into eight parts, each following the adventures of a new protagonist bearing the “JoJo” nickname; the eighth part, JoJolion, began serialization in May 2011. The first six parts form a saga detailing the supernatural conflicts between members of the Joestar family and various villains, while the latter two parts follow a continuity reboot, taking place in an alternate universe with many parallels to the original. The manga is Shueisha’s second largest ongoing series by volume count, with its chapters collected in 125 tankōbon volumes and counting.
