Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Won’t Ever Crossover With Pattinson’s Batman

The Clown Prince of Crime is coming to theatres next month as Joaquin Phoenix helms the role of the iconic villain in Joker. As the trailers and the glimpses of the movie predict, this Joker movie will be very unlike what we have seen over the years and will be different from the comic book origins and stories. That being said, there are reports that the Wayne Family will appear prominently, including a young Bruce Wayne.

Earlier there were rumours that DC may introduce Joaquin Phoenixs’ Joker into the mainline DCEU by creating the Flashpoint paradox event.

DC is facing two significant issues in terms of continuity

  • Robert Pattison has replaced the Ben Affleck as the Batman in the main DCEU timeline.

  • Also, the latest Joker movie, directed by Todd Phillips, is getting great critical acclaim. The film features a young Bruce Wayne.

This is a huge continuity obstacle and may lead to confusion in the storyline in the future. Joker is the archnemesis of Batman and creating two different Batmans and Jokers is unlikely to garner too much support amongst fans and critics.

To avoid this DC may have gone for the Flashpoint Paradox storyline, as this would have essentially rebooted the whole DC movie universe. Though this may be not the cleanest solution, it is one of the possible.

But now the all the speculations and rumours will be buried as the director himself, Todd Phillips while speaking to Variety has replied with a big NO.

For Phillips, it’s far more likely that another actor will come along before too long and offer a different interpretation of the Joker. After all, the director went on to say how he’s certain Phoenix won’t be the last cinematic iteration of Batman’s nemesis.

“Oddly, in the states, comic books are our Shakespeare it seems, and you can do many many versions of “Hamlet.” There will be many more jokers, I’m sure, in the future.”

So not is confirmed that the Phoenix’s Joker will never crossover with Pattison’s Batman, and we may have to look for another Joker yet again.
