The massive success of Todd Philips’s Joker movie has changed the direction of the DC movie universe and more importantly, has affected the future of the iconic character in future live-action films.
The heavily debated Joker played by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad already seemed to have been sidelined by the studios and now his fate has gotten worse.
It has recently been reported that the Academy Award-winning actor wasn’t happy that the high profile Joker was being made without his involvement. Now it looks like his heavily-tattooed version of the character has been abandoned altogether.
Leto’s disgusting and insane methods to delve into his role while filming resulted in a performance that alienated both fans and his fellow cast members. Leto had put a lot of effort into his version of the DC villain. Effort including terrifying other members of the cast with ‘gifts’ such as a live rat to Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie, bullets to Deadshot actor Will Smith and a dead pig to the entire cast during rehearsal. It turns out that the studio wasn’t moved with these efforts.
Jared Leto’s name did not appear in the cast list of James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel and now with Joaquin Phoenix dominating the headlines as Arthur Fleck, it seems that there’s only enough room for one Joker in town.
According to reports, Jared Leto’s Joker won’t appear in the Suicide Squad sequel or in Birds of Prey. The abandonment of Jared Leto’s Joker is a testament to how much everyone hated the character, especially considering his proximity to Harley Quinn in the movie and how heavily featured he was during the marketing campaign for the first Suicide Squad. It’s evident that Warner Bros. no longer wants to have anything to do with the Joker.
Of course, the Oscar-winning actor was not happy with this treatment and sources at The Hollywood Reporter say that Leto’s frustration with the Phillips project was so high early on that he tried to throttle the rival Joker in its cradle.
