Is Shanks the strongest in One Piece? Is he stronger than Kaido?

Red-Haired Shanks is the man who inspired Monkey D. Luffy, our protagonist, to become a pirate. But what do we know about him and his powers? Let’s delve right into it — Is Shanks the strongest? Is he stronger than Kaido?

Shanks is one of the strongest characters in One Piece, but not the strongest. His mastery of all types of Haki accompanied by his exceptional use of the sword makes him deserve that title despite being only one-armed and a non-devil fruit user.

In a fight against Kaido, Shanks Haki makes it possible for him to overcome the defense of the strongest creature in the world. It is believed that Shanks will triumph in the fight against him.

Who is Shanks?

Shanks is the captain of the Red Hair Pirates and a member of the Yonko (Four Emperors) that rule over the New World.

Before gathering his own crew, he was a member of the legendary Roger Pirates, the only group to successfully conquer the Grand Line under the leadership of The Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. But other than this basic information, we know very little about Shanks.

We are kept in the dark about his past and his family background. We know that he is the youngest Yonko; we know that he is very well versed in Haki, but the mystery surrounding him only gets deeper. How did he rise to the top? Is he the strongest character alive in One Piece? Let’s see!

The Origin of Shank’s Power

Shanks became a Yonko at a young age and became one of the four people that cannot be touched among the pirates. His position is rock solid.

As Oda has said once before, Shanks is not known to be a Devil Fruit user. All of his power comes from his absolutely phenomenal use of all types of Haki.

Along with that, his swordsmanship that could cause even Mihawk, who is known as the strongest swordsman, to continually ask him for a battle.

I. Paramount War Arc

He stopped Whitebeard, the strongest pirate in One Piece when alive, with one hand. It was later cleared that the sky parted because of the clash of their Conqueror’s Haki.

He stopped Kaido from interfering with the battle of Marineford. It was revealed later that they had a skirmish. Shanks intimidated both the pirates and the marines to put an end to the Battle of Marineford.

Even Blackbeard, who had the powers of the destructive Gura Gura no Mi Fruit and theevil Yami Yami no Mi Fruit chose not to fight Shanks. The emperor admitted that his crew was not strong enough to fight Shanks yet.

That right there makes Shanks a force to be reckoned with and definitely one of the strongest characters in the series. He is someone that can strike fear into any man or beast.

Is Shanks stronger than Kaido?

I. How strong is Kaido?

Kaido, the strongest creature in the world, is known for his unmatched physical strength.

He has been caught and tortured 18 times, and people as powerful as the Marines, and other Yonko have attempted to execute him 40 times but failed.

The reason he survived was that every single execution weapon broke when being used on him. Another thing to note is that Kaido has jumped down 10,000 meters from the sky onto the ground, creating a massive shockwave strong enough to sink a large ship nearby and emerged only with a headache.

II. Shanks Vs. Kaido

After taking into consideration the origin and battle prowess of both the Yonkos, it would seem that Shanks is more likely to be powerful than Kaido.

He is this powerful while being only one-armed. One thing to remember is that in this world where people become powerful with the help of devil fruits, Shanks is noted to solely rely on himself without consuming a devil fruit.

Even though Kaido might be unbeatable physically, Shanks Haki, which is known to be his strongest point accompanied by his swordsmanship, is more than enough to cut through Kaido’s defense.

Even though Kaido’s physical body might be the most durable in the world, his resistance and use of Haki are inferior to Shanks. As this series has shown us time and time again, Haki is the most important during a fight.

If there comes a time when Shanks and Kaido battle, Shanks can stomp the dragon any time of the day.

Mysteries Surrounding Shanks

There is much we do not know about Shanks, such as the nature of his connection to the five elders of the World Government.

is shanks the strongest is he stronger than kaido

While he may be shrouded in mystery, we know enough to conclude that he is one of the most powerful characters in One Piece. After all, the man who our Main character looks up to cannot be weak.

About One Piece

One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997, and has been collected into 95 tankōbon volumes.

The man who had acquired everything in this world, the Pirate King, is Gol D. Roger. The final words he said at the execution tower were “My treasures? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it; I left all of it at that place.” These words sent many to the seas, chasing their dreams, headed toward the Grand Line, in search of One Piece. Thus began a new age!

Seeking to be the greatest pirate in the world, young Monkey D. Luffy also heads toward the Grand Line in search of One Piece. His diverse crew is joining him along the way, consisting of a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright. This will be one memorable adventure.
