Is Metal Knight evil? How is he Genos’ enemy?

In the first season of One Punch Man, Drive Knight – S rank Hero, warned Genos to remain wary of Metal Knight and suggested that he may be the one who was behind the Mad Cyborg incident.

However, the warning given by Drive Knight was extremely vague and had no reason behind it. However, after the release of chapter 119 of the manga, we finally have a bit more information and clarity regarding the issue.

1. Quick Answer

After Drive Knight arrived on the scene and won the fight against Nyan, he was questioned over his absence in the past fights by the Hero Association’s Sekingar.

Here, Drive Knight revealed that he was unable to make contact sooner because of a traitor in their midst who he strongly believed was Metal Knight’s controller, Dr. Bofoi.

While Drive Knight does not have any solid proof behind his theory, after looking at Dr. Bofoi aka Metal Knight’s actions and personality, it makes sense for him to be labeled as a traitor.

However, it might not be as simple as it sounds, especially after considering Drive Knight’s questionable actions and vague answers.

2. Who is Metal Knight?

Metal Knight is the hero alias of Dr. Bofoi. He is an S-Class Rank 6 hero of the Hero Association and is behind the construction of the Hero Association’s facilities. He’s also one of the few people aware of Saitama’s real strength.

Bofoi appears to have an avid interest in any form of technology. Despite being a hero, he has little compassion for others.

He rarely shows his actual body and acts mainly through the use of his robots controlled from a safe distance.

He is rumored to have an immense arsenal of weapons and a robotic army, to the point where the Hero Association fears the idea of him going rogue.

I. Is Metal Knight a traitor?

With the Hero Association finishing off the Monster Association’s remaining monsters, Drive Knight arrives to take down Nyan.

After Drive wins the fight, he is questioned over his absence in the past fights by the Hero Association’s Sekingar.

Drive Knight reveals that he was unable to make contact sooner because of a traitor in their midst, which he strongly believes is Metal Knight’s controller, Dr. Bofoi.

He claims that Bofoi has been biding his time until the Hero Association is at their weakest to launch his attack and intends to achieve world domination with his cyborg army.

Drive Knight further accuses Bofoi of being captured by the Monster Association intentionally so that the villains would gain valuable intelligence against the Heroes.

He also points out that Bofoi was responsible for building the Hero Association’s headquarters, meaning he has full control over the facility and its weapons.

While Drive Knight does not have any solid proof behind his theory, after looking at Bofoi’s actions and personality, it makes sense for him to be labeled as a traitor. However, it might not be as simple as it sounds.

3. Who is Drive Knight?

Drive Knight is the S-Class Rank 9 professional hero of the Hero Association. He is an incredibly tactical and calculating fighter.

He values reconnaissance over the safety of the multiple heroes and does not underestimate his opponents.

He is not willing to allow any enemy who has seen his abilities to live. He is quite ruthless towards monsters and is willing to use any means to obtain the information he desires.

Drive Knight works of his own accord despite the Hero Association’s orders. According to Sekingar, Drive Knight’s confidence stems from the fact that he has never lost a battle.

I. Is Drive knight a traitor?

After returning in One-Punch Man Chapter 115, Drive Knight proceeds to demolish the powerful monster Nyan.

However, after doing so, Sekingar questions his location during the Monster Association HQ’s main battle as he’s been noticeably absent.

Drive Knight reveals in the chapter 115, that he was collecting information about the monsters and was unable to make contact sooner because of a traitor in their midst – Dr. Bofoi, aka Metal Knight.

When Sekingar asks for proof of this, Drive Knight gives an advanced analysis of all the factors that would indicate Bofoi’s treachery.

While Drive Knight does not have any substantial evidence behind his theory, after looking at Bofoi’s actions and personality, the theory of him being a traitor makes sense.

However, it might not be as simple as it sounds as Sekingar begins to doubt Drive Knight’s loyalty after seeing too many red-flags surrounding his actions and suspects that he may be the actual traitor.

4. Is Metal Knight Genos’s enemy?

In the 1st season of One Punch Man, Drive Knight had warned Genos that the enemy he was looking for was Metal Knight and that he should be wary of him.

This has led us to believe that Metal Knight was behind or at least responsible for the “Mad Cyborg” incident, which destroyed Genos’s village.

But as far as things go, we have not seen Dr. Bofoi, aka Metal Knight controlling any Cyborgs, only robots.

At the surface level, he can be considered Genos’s enemy; however, there’s no knowing what is actually going on, especially considering Drive Knight’s vague warnings.

I. Who killed Genos’s family?

When Genos was just 15, a Mad Cyborg attacked his town, destroying it and killing his family. Genos miraculously survived after being found by Dr. Kuseno, who passed through the town in pursuit of the cyborg.

Genos begged Dr. Kuseno to transform him into a cyborg, and the scientist agreed. Genos was then reborn as a cyborg and promised Dr. Kuseno that he would find and destroy the one responsible for the tragedy.

Later in season 1, it was revealed by Drive Knight that it is possible that Metal Knight was behind that specific incident.

II. Why did Drive Knight warn Genos?

In season 1, Drive Knight warned Genos that the enemy he is searching for is Metal Knight. However, there’s no knowing what is actually going on under the surface level, especially considering Drive Knight’s vague warnings.

We still have no idea why Drive Knight chose to warn Genos. Was it a genuine concern for a fellow Hero, or did it have an ulterior motive?

Perhaps, as the only other S-Class cyborg, Drive Knight thought Bofoi would target Genos, or he might’ve feared Genos would be recruited and turn against Heroes.

Despite all these theories, there is no actual conclusion, and Drive Knight’s words cannot be trusted.

To combat them, the world’s government created a Hero Association that employs superheroes to stop them. The heroes are ranked from Class C to Class S.

Saitama, an unassociated hero, hails from the metropolis of City-Z and performs heroic deeds for his entertainment.

He has trained himself to the point where he broke his “limit” and can effortlessly defeat any opponent with a single punch while slaying monsters the same way.

But he is now bored with his omnipotence and frustrated by sensing he lacks a challenge.
