Is Ging Freecss Stronger than the Chimera King Meruem?

Hunter x Hunter has received widespread attention both in Japan and internationally. Despite the long Hiatus and discontinuation of the anime, it has become one of the most popular Shounen series.

However, the manga is still progressing, and despite the slow updates, the story is entering an exciting arc. And with it, new questions arise frequently.

Is Ging stronger than Meruem? Is he the most muscular Hunter in the series? Below I have compared Ging’s power to Meruem – the King of Chimera Ants.

If you’re in a hurry, here’s the quick answer / summary:

As of chapter 400, Ging Freecss isn’t stronger than Meruem’s final form as the Chimera Ant King in Hunter x Hunter. However, we’ve not yet seen Ging’s true potential against Dark Continent creatures. There’s a possibility he might be deemed stronger as HxH manga rolls out new chapters.

While Ging’s a top 5 Nen user globally, adept at copying any ability, Meruem outshines him for now. The Chimera King trounced Netero effortlessly. And there’s a strong case to be made that Netero outclassed Ging.

How strong is Ging really?

Ging Freecss is a former Zodiac named “Boar.” He is also a Double-Star Ruins Hunter and can apply for a Triple-Star License with his abilities. He was the leading creator of the Nen-based game Greed Island.

2. Feats

Along with other feats, such as capturing Razor, Ging is exceptionally proficient in Nen. Chairman Netero once told Biscuit that Ging was one of the five best Nen users in the world.

Along with Nen, he also possesses immense speed and intelligence. His power might come second to his wit.

Being handpicked by Netero to be part of the Zodiac is a testament to Ging’s skill and power.

He is an extraordinary master of his nen and is among the top 5 most potent nen users in the entire HXH universe. It is assumed that he is on par with Old Netero.

He is arguably one of the most intelligent characters in the series. A true testament to Ging’s skills is his offensive Nen.

3. Powers

Ging can mimic other people’s abilities if he has been hit with it. Even this extraordinary ability is just natural talent and not a Nen ability. This is seen when he quickly copied Leorio’s Remote Punch perfectly on the first attempt.

While the extent of his abilities is still unknown, he is one of the strongest hunters in the series.

How strong is Meruem?

1. Background

Meruem was the King and the most potent offspring of the Chimera Ant Queen.

His tremendous physical prowess and unparalleled intellect placed him well above the domain of humans. He was born able to use Nen and had a vastly superhuman amount of aura.

An Important thing to note is that Meruem was killed before even reaching his full potential.

Meruem Lived for 40 days and was still new to the world’s concepts. Had he been allowed to live up to his prime, No one would have been able to defeat the Ant King.

2. Powers

After consuming Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi, his aura became such that Knuckle believed they would need a whole country’s military power to defeat him.

He fought Isaac Netero, considered the strongest Nen user in the world, and could sever Netero’s left arm and right leg effortlessly.

He even managed to push back two of the hands of Netero’s 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva. Even when battling against him, he had no intention to kill and merely wanted to test out the abilities of a powerful human.

Along with his great physical strength, Meruem was also shown to be a genius tactician.

Though he never was able to make his own Nen Ability, after consuming Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi, he was able to gain wings and was able to use their Nen abilities as his own

Despite his death, Meruem’s power has been deeply engrained in our minds, and he is undoubtedly the most robust character in the series.

How does Ging compare to Meruem?

Ging cannot beat Meruem, as while Ging is strong and knowledgeable, he’s not the series’ strongest. Meruem, The King of Chimera Ants, surpasses Ging in intellect, strength, and combat.

Ging is one of the strongest and most knowledgeable hunters in the series. However, from what we know so far, he’s still not the strongest Hunter in the series.

Just his status as one of the top 5 Nen users means that there are still a few hunters who can more than prove to be a challenge to him.

Also, his opponent is Meruem – King of the Chimera Ants. From the time of his birth, he symbolized the absolute pinnacle of evolution and was already the most powerful character in the series.

Along with his great physical strength, Meruem was also shown to be a genius tactician.

Speaking for Meruem, in the Dark Continent Expedition Arc, we delve into how the Hunter’s Association assesses the threat levels of monsters. Interestingly, Chimera Ants were rated as a B on the scale, akin to the creatures from the dark continent.

A recent arc in the manga witnessed a change in the ranking by the Hunter’s Association chairman, Cheadle. The Dark Continent creatures were elevated to an A ranking, highlighting their greater potency and danger than Chimera Ants.
