Is Ezra Bridger Still Alive? Where Is He?

In the Season 4 Finale of Star Wars Rebels, Ezra Bridger has a face-off with Grand Admiral Thrawn involving Thrawn’s Star Destroyer. To free his own home planet Lothal, Ezra uses his special connection to the Force to call for space whales known as Purrgil for help. The Purgills had the unique ability to jump into open space.

They jump into the hyperspace along with Thrawn’s fleet. But, we never get to know where. I have a few theories about what happened to Ezra after that massive jump into the hyperspace.

Ezra Bridger is alive at the end of Star Wars Rebels. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, we know that he went with the Purrgils who’ll protect Ezra. Ahsoka and Sabine also set out, in the end, to find Ezra, so there’s a chance he might appear in the upcoming Ahsoka series or a season of Din Djarin’s The Mandalorian.

In fact, the finale episode ends with Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren taking up a new mission: to find Ezra Bridger, seeing as he never came back after that jump. In all probability, Ezra Bridger is still alive.

1. Is Ezra Bridger Still Alive?

It is absolutely logical and probable that both Ezra and Thrawn died after that massive jump into hyperspace. But knowing the twists and turns the Star Wars Universe is known to come up with, that is most likely not the case.

Dave Filoni himself has been quoted saying in a 2018 Interview with the Rebels Recon show,

“I’ll say this much, they’re not dead. Both of them survive, both Ezra and Thrawn I would say survive it.”

Before leaving, Ezra also tells Sabine that he is counting on her. He never explains why,

Sabine assumes he wants her to protect their home planet Lothal from the Empire. However, the anticipated attack from the Empire never happens.

This probably makes Sabine wonder if Ezra’s message meant something more. The best guess is that Ezra was counting on her to find him since he is still alive in some corner of the galaxy! In the finale, we see Sabine and Ahsoka Tano set off to look for Ezra, who they believe is still alive somewhere in the galaxy.

There are other reasons to believe Ezra is still alive as well. In The Rise of Skywalker, Rey remembers a number of powerful fallen Jedis for help and support for facing Palpatine. Rey hears the voices of several past Jedis (those who are now dead).

Among the voices, we also hear Kanan Jarrus, Ezra’s Jedi master who died in the Star Wars Rebels finale. However, what is of our concern is the absence of Ezra Bridger’s voice.

If Ezra is indeed dead, why doesn’t Rey hear his voice? The absence of Ezra’s voice among past Jedis seems to hint that he is definitely still alive.

2. Does Sabine Ever Find Ezra?

We never get to know whether Sabine finally finds Ezra. However, it is highly probable that the makers will bring back Ezra Bridger in a spin-off series since they left several cliffhangers and open endings in the Star Wars Rebels finale.

Moreover, if we look at the spinoff series The Mandalorian (which is set five years after The Return of The Jedi), Ahsoka Tano features in it. And we know that Ahsoka went looking for Ezra with Sabine at the end of Star Wars Rebels.

So, Ahsoka’s return can imply that Sabine and Ahsoka already found Ezra. Or, perhaps the search for Ezra is still on and the show can throw some light on where Ezra is now.

3. Is Ezra Bridger Going to Be in The Mandalorian?

Season 2 of The Mandalorian featured quite a few familiar faces from the Star Wars Universe. Important characters like Bo-Katan and Ahsoka Tano, who had crucial roles in Star Wars Rebels, featured in Season 2.

Speculation says that some other popular characters may also turn up in the upcoming seasons, and Ezra Bridger tops the list.

Ezra’s whereabouts still remains unexplained since he jumped into hyperspace along with Admiral Thrawn.

Ezra is probably somewhere out there in the galaxy, or maybe he has already been found. An interaction with the Mandalorian could very much be on the cards. Ahsoka Tano also drops in a crucial hint: the mention of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Ezra journey is directly connected to Thrawn’s, since both of them disappeared together. What if Ahsoka has already found them both or is about to find them?

Apart from The Mandalorian, fans are also speculating a probable return of Ezra Bridger in the Ahsoka series. There is more scope for him there, where he could have a dedicated track involving Thrawn.

Either way, Ezra Bridger’s return into the Star Wars Universe is definitely on the cards. It is not long until he is found again. This is surely not the end of Ezra Bridger’s journey.

4. About Star Wars Rebels

Star Wars Rebels is a four-season-long animated TV series animated and produced by Lucasfilm Animation. Rebels aired its first episode on October 14, 2014, and follows the story of rebels who make the rebellion happen against The Empire in the Star Wars Universe.

The plot revolves around a team of Rebels and clearly the most unique team combination we have seen in Star Wars so far. The rebel team is led by Jedi Knight Kenan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla – daughter of Cham Syndulla who once fought the Separatists with Jedi Master Windu during the Clone Wars.

We also have an R2D2-style astromech – Chopper, an ex-Mandalorian – Sabine Wren, and a Lasat – Garazeb Orellios. The team’s rebellion starts escalating quickly when they encounter a strong force-sensitive boy, Ezra Bridger on the planet of Lothal.
