Who is the Leader of Black Dragon in Tokyo Revengers? Is it Takemichi?

It’s not even been a week since the first season of Tokyo Revengers ended and fans are storming the internet to see whether they can find some answers. Of course, episode 24 ended on a cliffhanger – with Kisaki aiming the gun at our boy Takemichi.

Season 1 of the shonen anime has covered the Toman, Moebius, and Valhalla arcs from the manga. We have four arcs left, and they’ll possibly be covered in 2 more seasons. But Season 2 will surely begin with the Black Dragon arc, and I’m too excited.

But who exactly are the members of Black Dragon? Who will be their leader? Let’s break it down, shall we?

Who is the Leader of Black Dragon?

The first leader of Black Dragon, according to the manga, is Shinichiro Sano. It is founded on the ideals of nobility and looks down upon criminal activities. Shinichiro is Mikey’s elder brother and is introduced in episode 16 of the anime, and chapter 44 in the manga.

Black Dragon gang has been mentioned about 2 or 3 times in the duration of the first season. In Episode 22, we learn that Baji created the Tokyo Manji Gang or Toman to protect Kazutora from the Black Dragon, which is an older and more violent gang, founded by Shinichiro Sano.

According to the manga, after Shinichiro, the 1st generation leader, Izana, his younger brother, becomes the leader of the 8th generation of Black Dragon. After him, the 9th generation leader is Shion Madarme, who becomes the direct reason for Toman’s existence: Shion was instructed by Izana to kill Mikey.

The Black Dragon already sounds pretty deadly to me. Although the first generation was built on morals and the concept of honor, things get increasingly more violent and criminal with new leaders.

In Chapter 79, the Black Dragon is properly introduced, with the 10th generation leader, the fundamentalist and brutal Taiju. Taiju will most definitely be the main, or one of the main, antagonists of Season 2.

But Takemichi has to defeat him, right? And then? Will he become the new leader of the Black Dragon?

Is Takemichi the Leader of Black Dragon?

Takemichi is the ultimate leader of Black Dragon. He is selected to lead the 11th generation of the gang, which, for the first time since it was founded, falls under Toman’s rule. I think Takemichi will eventually use Black Dragon to fight against Mikey and the rest in the final arc.

There is a legendary battle that takes place between the Tokyo Manji Gang and Black Dragon. Mikey, Takemichi, Mitsuya, Chifuyu, and Draken fight from Toman. Mikey is the only one that is able to defeat a strong fanatic like Taiju. The rest of the gang also fights against other Black Dragon members. And… Toman wins!

In Chapters 107 onwards, it is shown that Inui and Kokonoi abandon their leader Taiju, and join Toman under the 1st Division. They leave Takemichi in charge of the gang and he becomes the new and final leader.

I can’t wait to see whether Takemichi leads Black Dragon to a better future. Or, vice versa – I hope Black Dragon can change the future for Takemichi and somehow change fate by bringing Hinata and Naoto back to life.

The writers have announced that Tokyo Revengers has entered its final arc. Season 2 shouldn’t be too far away either. Some people believe that Black Dragon was disbanded but I think Takemichi will definitely use his leadership in some way.

Tokyo Revengers is a manga written and illustrated by Ken Wakui. It began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine on March 1, 2017, and ended its run in November 2022. It is compiled into 31 tankobon volumes.

The story revolves around Takemichi Hanagaki, who learned that Tokyo Manji Gang had killed his only ex-girlfriend from back in middle school. After learning about the incident, Takemichi was pushed from the railway platform.

Landing on the tracks, he closed his eyes, accepting his death, but when he opened his eyes, he had time-leaped 12 years into the past.
