‘Insomniacs After School’ TV Anime to Broadcast in April 2023

Ganta and Isaki from ‘Insomniacs After School’ are school kids who suffer from insomnia and go on adventures under the starry night sky. They prove that insomniacs might suffer from an unpleasant disorder, but no one knows the beauty and charm of night-time like them.

Makoto Ojiro wrote this tale in the hopes of resonating with people suffering from this condition and was successful in doing so. Now that an anime adaptation has been announced, the story is bound to reach more people who need it.

Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits magazine has revealed that the ‘Insomniacs After School’ anime has been slated to debut in April 2023. More information regarding the release will be shared soon.

The magazine has revealed an illustration featuring Ganta and Isaki on a bike under the gleaming night sky with the debut announcement. We might get more such alluring visuals and promos soon as the premiere date comes closer.

As for those who are not familiar with the story, I’ll help you out.

You already know it’s about two insomniac school kids, Ganta and Isaki, who form an unlikely friendship over their shared illness. The two have totally opposite personalities, as Ganta is grumpy and unpleasant, while Isaki is lively and cheerful.

Ganta encounters Isaki at the school’s abandoned observatory that the astronomy club once used.

No one goes to the observatory as rumors of an astronomy club member dying there are spread in the school like wildfire. Such a place serves as the perfect space for Ganta to get some much-needed rest, only to find a fellow insomniac Isaki doing the same.

The two then decide to use the observatory as their safe space to rest, which goes on quite smoothly. However, their peace was short-lived as the school could not allow unsanctioned use of the place.

To tackle this problem, Ganta and Isaki decide to revive the defunct astronomy club and have the observatory to themselves.

Besides all the scenic beauty and the coming-of-age theme, the plot also deals with the negative aspects of insomnia. Showing the nice things about it is undoubtedly unique, but you can’t deny that it’s still an illness that can make life difficult for people.

Due to these factors, I’m really excited for the anime to come out.
