In Chapter 395, titled Founding: Part 1, Hinrigh concluded that the Heil-Ly family used warping abilities to get across parts of the ship. He even informed Wang that the Phantom Troupe was actively searching for the enemy hideout.

While investigating, Nobunaga and Phinks began talking about their past, which triggered a flashback to the Phantom Troupe when they were kids in Meteor City.

In the flashback, Chrollo, Franklin, and Shalnark were at odds with Uvojin and Phinks.

Chapter 396, in some ways, seems to redeem Uvojin’s character. The chapter shows the readers the beginning of the Troupe, how Uvojin was as a child and his motivations behind wanting to be part of the Troupe.

In the previous chapter, Chrollo had snuck away a videotape from Phinks and Uvojin and decided to dub the video in his own voice with the help of a few others. This, however, did not go over well with Phinks and Uvojin, who were Chrollor’s bullies at this time.

Chrollo is confronted by the two in this chapter for using their tape without permission. Still, the situation is defused by Sarasa, the youngest, who promises Chrollo that she knows how to handle the bullies.

Once Chrollor apologizes to him for using his tape, Uvo asks Chrollo if he can voice the monster in the video for the rest of the episodes. The rest of the kids also want a role as voice actors in the videos, with Nobu volunteering to be Green, Feitan wanting to be Yellow, Phinks choosing to be Blue, and Franklin choosing to be the Great Demon.

This led to the Troupe being formed. When discussing what to name their group, Uvo proposes they name it Gekidan, which means Troupe of performers. Nobu seems to find this name too formal and serious, and then Paku suggests naming it Ryodan instead, which means travel. Thus, the group is finally named.

When the group is formed, Uvo says that he has finally found what he wants. When Chrollor asks him what that is, he says that he desired to be the world’s No.1 villain in all the plays he would perform with the Troupe. The chapter ends with a few suspicious people in a car nearby looking for children to abduct.
