Helstrom will not be coming back with a second season on Hulu. The American streaming platform canceled the Marvel-based horror drama after its ten-episode first season premiered on October 16th, 2020. Although the critics appreciated the visual effects in the series, the response to Helstrom was generally negative. The low ratings played a major role in the show’s cancelation.
The series is based on the Marvel comics of the same name and follows the Helstrom siblings, Daimon and Satana. Born to a serial killer, the siblings use their powers to hunt the worst of humanity. In the comics, Daimon and Satana are half-demon and half-human hybrids who fight to save the world from the evil influence of their father, Satan.
With Helstrom ending, Marvel Television’s days are also over. The division was headed by Jeph Loeb and controlled all the Marvel shows on television- Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, and Luke Cage. A Ghost Rider show was also in the works, which, along with Helstrom, would collectively be known as Adventure into Fear.
One by one, each of the previous shows was canceled, and the Ghost Rider series was never made. Two animated series, M.O.D.O.K and Hit-Monkey, are still in the works at Hulu, but Helstrom was the last of the live-action shows produced by Marvel Television. The division has now been absorbed into Marvel Studios.
However, this is not the end of Marvel-based tv shows. Eleven shows, produced by Marvel Studios, (the guys responsible for the big screen projects of the MCU) are coming up on Disney+ in the next year and beyond.
