How To Watch Fate Series? Watch Order Of Fate Series

The Fate series is a fantastic work of animation and story-telling. Unlike most anime, it isn’t based on a manga; instead, it is based on a video game series called Fate/Stay Night.

The plot of each season differs quite a bit from the next. Regardless, a common motive ties them together. The anime follows its characters’ adventures for the Holy Grail’s quest, which acts as the common theme.

The story is based on the different choices a character could make, leading to the anime having jumbled timelines, which can be a bit jarring. But that is the same element which makes it equally, if not more, entertaining.

There are multiple installments in the Fate Series, making it harder to approach, but don’t fret! Follow the list below for a complete and comprehensive guide to the series.

8. About Fate Series

Fate/stay night is a Japanese visual novel developed by Type-Moon, released initially as an adult game for Windows.

The story revolves around Shirou Emiya, an honest and hardworking teen who is forced to enter The Fifth Holy Grail War.

In this deathmatch tournament, participants fight with magical abilities, as the winner gets to chance to have their desires come to life. Following a near-death experience, he meets Saber, an artificial personification of the legend Arturia Pendragon, designed to help the participants.

I think for the Series Wise Release Order, it would better to watch :
Heaven’s Feel 1&2 before Fate Zero and then watch Heaven’s Feel 3 after it is released…
There are certain factors for which I think the order I stated above should be taken into consideration…
(Spoilers ahead, maybe..)
First of all, Fate/Zero can be considered as a “spinoff” prequel. It doesn’t necessarily prelude every event in Fate/stay night. It has a huge spotlight on the Matous (a certain generation of families), which are only explored in Heavens feel. Watching Fate/Zero first spoils the experience of enjoying Heaven’s feel to its fullest. Fate/Zero is only a supplement to Fate/stay night. Also, Fate/stay night came first. Stay/Night, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven’s Feel were written before Fate/Zero. Fate/Zero was written to make the events of Fate/stay night more clear.
In simple words, Fate/Zero is a prequel to Fate/stay night. But Fate/stay night is not a sequel to Fate/Zero.
There is also certain characters and their ideals for which Fate Zero should be watched at the end.
1. Zoken Matou: if we watch Fate Zero first, we already get to know that he exists and about his motives or his thirst in getting the Holy Grail, which eventually doesn’t give us the hype or the thrill when we see him in Fate HF 1&2 when he meets up Shirou Emiya…
2. The past of Sakura Matou: As Heaven’s Feel timeline gives Sakura the spotlight…she telling Shirou about her past, the connection she has with Rin Tohsaka, and how much she had gone through would give us an emotional ride in the movie. If we see her past before even starting HF, It somewhat spoils the emotional part of Heaven’s feel
3. Ideals of Kirei Kotomine: In HF 1&2, we still didn’t know any of his ideals or his past and as to how he ended up joining the holy grail war.. If we see Zero before HF, we would already know that who Kirei Kotomine actually is and about his ideals and how Gilgamesh could survive without a master which wouldn’t necessarily give us the thrill when watching HF 3.
.And so forth

In other words, watching Fate with the main character’s perspective (Shirou Emiya) and then coming back again to its backstory lets you enjoy the series to its fullest and as each series deals with different aspects of heroism, so in my opinion, Stay/Night>>UBW>>HF 1&2 >> Zero is the way to go for and then get pumped up for HF 3.
Sorry if there are any grammatical errors..

Hey Anugraha, thanks for doing such an elaborate job with your explanation! Rest assured, we are on it and will update the article ASAP.

Hi Anugraha, thanks for reading! Watching Heaven’s feel before Zero is an interesting suggestion but, the thing about Fate Zero is that it was originally meant to be viewed (or played if we’re talking about the visual novel) after UBW. Heaven’s feel is basically an alternative timeline that can be viewed anytime after UBW. So, since the original creators wanted it to be viewed in a certain way (order of release), I think that would be one of the easiest and the best ways for new fans to get into the Fate series.
