How Naruto Villains(Akatsuki) Are Better Than Boruto Villains(Kara) & Why

It has been over two years since Boruto debuted worldwide as a follow up to the classic shonen hit Naruto: Shippuden. Finally, after about 100 episodes, the anime part is also catching up with the manga.

However, whether Boruto villains will ever live up to Naruto quality villains is still a matter of debate.

1. Quick Answer

Boruto has done very little work to introduce villains and explore their past. Therefore, Boruto villains do not even have half the influence someone like Orochimaru or Akatsuki had on the Naruto franchise.

The whole plot of Boruto is essentially a mass pile-up of older Naruto characters that is being presented in new forms.

2. Akatsuki in Naruto

The Akatsuki was a secret criminal organization that grouped most of the primary antagonists of the Naruto series.

The original Akatsuki contained over ten official members, and all except for one were males. Yahiko and Konan founded it with Nagato as the leader (popularly known as Pain).

Over several decades, Akatsuki kept changing and had different leaders. The main goal of Akatsuki was to make the world a better place through means they find appropriate.

3. Kara Organisation:

Kara Organisation in Boruto is kind of like Akatsuki in Naruto. Kara is a mysterious organization led by Jigen; they are presumably in-charge of acquiring and protecting vessels of Otsutsuki Clan members.

Kara is further divided into Inners and Outers. If you want to know in-depth, do check out our complete guide on Kara.

4. Kara vs. Akatsuki

The kind of impact Orochimaru had on the Naruto franchise is something villains of Boruto lack.

It’s the villain work which left a long-lasting legacy for Naruto, and in fact, it’s somewhat the same legacy we see extending in the Boruto anime presently.

Orochimaru has done it all – been a legendary Sannin, betrayed Konoha, developed weapons of mass destruction like Sasuke, and helped start endless ninja wars, both on his own and with Akatsuki.

Kara, on the other hand, does not have any such prominent name which comes to our mind.

Naruto introduced iconic villains like Zabusa, Zetsu, and others, which were equally good, just like their heroic counterparts like Kakashi and Jiraiya.

But, the way Boruto is going, there are no signs of its characters undergoing a change that will make them stand right next to the ones we find in Naruto.

This forces us to conclude that Boruto is just relying on already established Naruto characters to move the franchise forward.

It is pretty clear to anyone who saw the original Naruto series that Boruto has not produced any jaw-dropping arc that can even come close to anything that Naruto had within its first 120 episodes.

Boruto seems to become a drag day by day as it resorts to fillers to make up for its lack of good material.

5. Where To Read Boruto Manga

Ikemoto’s Boruto is currently published under Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. We recommend you to buy the manga/books and read from official sources only. #SAYNOTOPIRACY

For cheaper options, you can buy the monthly subscription to Shonen Jump itself. The subscription will cost $1.99/month and give you access to approximately 10,000+ chapters, which is not a bad deal at all.

You can also buy Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Volume 7. ‘Coz nothing beats the feel of the physical book in hand.
