No one can beat the Higurashi franchise when it comes to psychological thrillers and murder mysteries. Although the series has given many people nightmares, it still seems to have a solid fan base because it’s just that good.
Last year, the franchise released the eighth season of its anime series and made it to the top of everyone’s watchlist. The manga is no less and continues to be one of the finest stories ever written, especially for supernatural lovers.
Even though it is spectacular, the fans still feel that something is missing, and the franchise has finally answered why the plot seems a bit off.
Higurashi: When They Cry franchise has revealed a new spin-off manga called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Oni scheduled to launch on February 25, 2022.
The upcoming manga, written by authors Asahi and Ryukushi07, has been described as the ‘missing link’ in the story by Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine.
The plot is set in the Taisho Era in the 1920s, where the final demon will awaken and bring about a new danger in Hinamizawa.
The manga will also revolve around Oryo, the head of the Sonozaki family, one of Hinamizawa’s Three Great Families.
Another grave tragedy will strike the town of Hinamizawa and put the lives of certain people in a new kind of hell, changing them forever. This suggests that there will be multiple protagonists who will be revealed soon.
I am not the kind of person who handles supernatural and psychological thrillers well, but Higurashi is a story that I can’t help but read. Yes, I know that the cost of it will be a lifetime of nightmares, but it’s totally worth it.
The new manga sounds even more impressive and terrifying than the previous ones, and I can’t wait to see what it has in store.
