The reality of the idol industry is much darker than we can imagine, and ‘Oshi no Ko’ is the perfect example of it.
Starting with the murder of the popular idol Ai at the hands of an obsessed fan, the story goes the extra mile to add supernatural elements and make it even more thrilling.
Speaking of thrill, the streaming service HIDIVE never fails to bring us the most exciting titles every now and then. Continuing this pattern, the company has a special announcement related to this anime.
During its Anime NYC panel, HIDIVE revealed that the company has acquired streaming rights for the ‘Oshi no Ko’ anime for 2023.
For now, the company has only acquired the streaming rights and will reveal more information regarding dub and sub versions later. This also means that Sentai Filmworks has licensed the anime.
The franchise plans to reveal more details regarding other streaming networks soon. As previously announced, the anime’s pilot episode will be a 90-minute-long special with Rie Takahashi has been cast as the idol Ai.
Coming to the story, it involves everything from reincarnation to music, and it’s unreal how well all those genres blend together. It starts pretty standard, with a pregnant Ai getting admitted under the care of a doctor named Goro, who is also one of her biggest fans.
Goro promises to deliver Ai’s twins safely but is killed by the idol’s obsessive fan a few days before the due date. In a surprising turn of events, Goro is reincarnated as one of Ai’s babies named Aquamarine, with all the memories from his past life intact.
As the story continues, Ai’s second twin and Goro’s sister Ruby is introduced.
It is revealed that Ruby is the reincarnation of one of Goro’s patients, a 12-year-old girl named Sarina, who died due to a terminal disease. However, it is unclear if Ruby still remembers her past life or who she was before reborn as Ai’s daughter.
When Ruby and Aquamarine are kids, Ai is murdered by the same obsessive fan who finds out about the idol’s pregnancy and children. From here on begins Aquamarine’s life as a part-time detective, bent on exacting revenge for his mother.
If you’re a fan of murder mysteries, then you’re definitely going to enjoy this one.
I hope the franchise reveals a release date and cast information soon. I’m curious about who’s going to play Aquamarine.
About Oshi no Ko
Oshi no Ko is a supernatural crime-solving manga series written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump since April 2020 and received an anime adaptation in 2023.
The story follows a doctor, Goro, reincarnated as his favorite idol Ai’s kid. Ai names him Aquamarine and his twin sister, a reincarnation of a patient at the hospital, Ruby. Ai is later killed by a stalker who was also responsible for Goro’s death. As Aquamarine swears revenge on the stalker for his mother’s demise, Ruby follows the same path as her mother to become an idol.
