The final arc of Haikyu!! started with chapter 370, “Challenger.” It featured a 5-year time skip during which Hinata has been practicing beach volleyball in Brazil, and Kageyama is attempting for the pro-leagues.

Chapter 401 (Promises) of Haikyu!! was released on 12th July, and it’s the second last chapter of the manga. The concluding vibes are quite substantial as every character is given a chance to speak and interact with each other. Character improvements are portrayed along with reconciliations and a chance at healthy rivalry.

[Spoiler] The chapter starts with a win of the Black Jackals against the Alders. As soon as the match is over, Hinata and Kageyama start tallying the number of losses and wins they have had in all the practice matches and games they have played in since high school.

Kageyama realizes that Hinata has gotten better with his skills and may even be equal to him now.

Kageyama calls out to Kindaichi and Kunimi and states that he wants to play together with them whenever possible. Even if it’s not an official match, a friendly game when they become old will do. Their aversion towards each other has melted away only to be replaced with healthy rivalry.

In a later conversation between Enaga and Hoshiumi, they discuss exactly how much Hinata has gotten better. His core, position, defense, and balance are stronger, and Hoshiumi plans to play with him and dominate the world sports scene.

Timeskip

Ever since the decision of the manga’s finale was announced, fans have been speculating over the ending of the manga. Fans predicted another time skip after which Kageyama and Hinata will be shown playing alongside each other in the Japanese National Team.

Fans will be delighted to know that they weren’t wrong—the last page of chapter 401 fast forwards the plot to 2021. The venue is the Ariake Arena, where the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be held.

Against a backdrop of banners and wearing the jersey, which represents Japan, stand Hinata and Kageyama. They had made it to the Nationals, just as we expected.

Chapter 402, Speculations

Chapter 402 will be an extra-long chapter since it will be the final one. The match of Kageyama and Hinata in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics might be glimpsed along with some other characters. However, Oikawa Tooru is still shrouded in mystery, and a slight chance of his appearance is possible.
