The two episodes are intended to serve as an introduction to the anime film “Gintama: The Final,” which will hit Japanese cinemas on January 8, 2021.

It seems there was too much content left to cram into a single movie. A couple of episodes to lead in will do wonders for the pacing.

The upcoming film will be directed by Chizuru Miyawaki (director of various “Gintama” seasons), and Bandai Namco Pictures studio is carrying out the production.

The film’s title song is performed by the Japanese rock band, SPYAIR. No further information has been revealed yet.

The film will be mainly based on the finale of the original manga, with some new elements added to it. The teaser trailer for the film is already released without any plot reveal.

It is expected that the movie will be the adaptation of the last half of the Silver soul arc, which is the final arc of the manga series.
