Where do I even start with this over-dramatic anime? Gintama has always been that one weird but humorous anime that we just can’t get enough of.

Sometimes, the gags are silly enough to give you third-hand embarrassment, and Gintama: The Final is no different.

“There is no anime that Gintama can’t parody,” is a common belief amongst the Gintama fans. Dragon Ball is a commonly parodied anime, but Gintama drags it to a point where we half-expect Akira Toriyama face-palming.

Gintama’s latest antics include a full 90-second parody of Dragon Ball Z as the opening of Gintama: The Final anime movie.

The clip starts in a typical Dragon Ball style (even the art seemed more serious). The aliens are seen invading and plundering Earth during the Edo era.

Gintoki enters with a swaggering walk, but the whole mood is ruined as soon as his face is shown.

With his silver hair, Gintoki looks like Goku in his mastered Ultra Instinct form. Shinpachi looks like Krillin, and Kondo-san looks like a… giant King Kong? (Disappointed but not surprised)

Over the years, Gintama has parodied Bleach, Assassination Classroom, Naruto, Black Clover, Doraemon, Haikyu!! and tons of other anime. However, we as fans have completely resigned to the situation and just lay back to enjoy the chaos.

Gintama: The Final film premiered in Japanese theatres on 8th January and broke Demon Slayer: Mugen Train’s consecutive tops at the Weekend Box Office. By 21st February, the film had earned a whopping $ 15.55 million.

A two-episode anime prequel to the film was also released on 15th January on the dTV streaming service. The Gintama manga ended in June 2019, but its aftereffects have not worn out yet. How can you ever get tired of such a dorky series?

He agrees to an unequal contract with the aliens, placing a ban on carrying swords in public and allowing the invaders to enter the country.

The samurai’s swords are confiscated, and the Tokugawa bakufu becomes a puppet government.

The series focuses on an eccentric samurai, Gintoki Sakata, who works as an odd-jobs freelancer. Although the story is mostly episodic, a few story arcs and recurring antagonists develop.
