The Sci-fi Series ‘Full Metal Panic!’ Makes a Well-Deserved Comeback

One of my first anime other than Dragon Ball, Bleach, and Naruto was ‘Full Metal Panic!” and I absolutely loved it. Its narrative is a seamless blend of comedy and action, neither overpowering the other.

In one episode, I am dying of laughter; in the next, I am struck by tense, dramatic action that shows the contrast between Sagara’s high school life and the harshness of his job as a mercenary.

The anime ‘Full Metal Panic!’ debuted in 2002 and finished in 2017. Since then, fans of the series have been unsure whether or not the anime will continue. I was left with a sense of emptiness after finishing the series, and I’m sure other fans felt the same way, but the anime gods have listened to our prayers and have thrilling news for the fans.

Shoji Gatoh’s Full Metal Panic! the light book series will start with a fresh story this year, according to Kadokawa, as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The new story takes place in the current day, almost two decades after the conclusion of the original story, which was published in a book in 2010. The sequel will continue the daily lives of the main characters, Sosuke and Chidori, who are now adults.

Gatoh stated on Friday that the upcoming sequel story would have some humor, but it will not be as slapstick as the previous novel, ‘Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu’. It will be a compilation of short stories for recreational reading.

He intends to introduce “various characters” following the first chapter. He half-jokingly speculated that the sequel may finish in one book, continue for three, or “depending on how things go, become an epic saga lasting over 20 volumes.”

Full Metal Panic! has been with me since I first saw it when it was released, and I like to watch it every few years. Sagara is one of the finest fictional characters ever created, and spending time with him on screen is always a blast. This news has filled me with an overwhelming sense of nostalgia, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.

About Full Metal Panic!

Full Metal Panic! (Japanese: Hepburn: Furumetaru Panikku!, often abbreviated to FMP!) is a series of light novels written by Shoji Gatoh and illustrated by Shiki Douji.

Sousuke Sagara is a member of Mithril, a hidden anti-terrorist private military organisation entrusted with defending Kaname Chidori, an energetic Japanese high school student. He travels to Japan to attend Chidori’s high school, Jindai High School, with the help of his companions Kurz Weber and Melissa Mao. Because he has never had social connections, his classmates regard Sousuke as a military fanatic who views everyday circumstances from a war viewpoint.

He meets Chidori, who realises that Sousuke is protecting her, but he does not tell why owing to instructions and the fact that he does not know why Chidori is being targeted by several organisations.
