FOX to Bring Back The X-Files in All New Animated Comedy Avatar

A brand new avatar of The X-Files is under creation at FOX Studios. The production house has ordered the script for an animated version of the sci-fi live-action series, The X-Files.

The animated series is expected to be a comedy and focus on an entirely new set of characters based in New Mexico.

Revealing more about the FOX project, The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the all-new comedic take on the beloved series will focus on a new set of characters.

These will include a B-team of agents working in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The concept is similar to that of CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Lower Decks, which focuses on low-level Federation workers, THR added.

The potential series is being called The X-Files: Albuquerque and centers on an office of misfit agents who investigate cases too wacky, ridiculous or dopey for Scully and Mulder, the heroes of the original show.

This wouldn’t be the first time that X-Files characters have been animated on FOX. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson played their iconic characters, FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, in a 1997 instalment of The Simpsons, while The X-Files was still airing.

As fans would know, the 1993 show saw FBI agents Fox Mulder, a theorist and Dana Scully, a realist, pull out all the stops to investigate and get to the bottom of inexplicable paranormal cases.

The series ran for 11 seasons with its last episode airing in 2018. With a consistent IMDb rating of 8.6 from over 100,000 votes, the series has been a widely acclaimed one.

A script for the potential series has been ordered, and Chris Carter will executive produce the project alongside Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko.
