Fans Went Haywire with Narnia Fantasy, Fake Posters on Internet

There is a set of posters doing the rounds on internet once earlier on Friday, accompanied by an eager welcome to Narnia series on Netflix. It’s not true but it’s not completely untrue either. It’s like a tribute to the fantasy genre, in its own sweetly diss-ful way.

It was soon revealed that the posters were infact using scenes from the recently concluded Game of Thrones franchise. A major give away was The Last Battle poster, which looked familiar with its figure gripping a sword. It looked familiar not because it was from Narnia, but Game of Thrones: it’s the Oathkeeper.

Nevertheless, the internet was already asking, ‘Where is the Narnia universe you promised us Netflix?’ and the grand prank seemed to have fulfilled its intent!

So the thing is Netflix had announced over two years back that it had purchased the rights to all seven of the Narnia novels from its author CS Lewis. Nine figures were involved, and it was a big deal, even for Netflix.

But two years on, fans have been repeatedly calling on Netflix with hopes of a Narnia comeback but in vain. It seems the fake posters came out to cut through the radio silence Netflix has maintained since last June when news broke that Matthew Aldrich Aldrich of The Coco fame, would be the architect of this new fantasy universe.

Netflix had thrilled Narnia fans in 2018 when it announced several movies and shows inspired from the books in the coming years. So much so that the absence of any further  news got even those closest to the streamer, worried. Only two weeks back, Lewis’ stepson and producer Narnia Gresham shared his worries about the deal in an interview.

“I have not heard a word from them,” he said. “I’m kind of getting worried myself as to whether anything’s ever going to happen.”

Is Netflix Making Chronicles of Narnia?

Yes, that it is. Important decisions are being made about the production of what Netflix has termed the Narnia universe, even if it has not announced any specifics.

For Gresham, he hopes there are episodes and series instead of films. “[I’d] love it to be an episodic thing,” he said. “Because with a movie, you have an hour, maybe two-hour maximum if you really stretch it, to put an entire book — an adventure storybook — into the film. And you just can’t do it.”

When Is Chronicles of Narnia on Netflix?

Unfortunately, we don’t and neither does Netflix.

There are seven books in the Chronicles of Narnia series: The Magician’s Nephew; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; The Horse and His Boy; Prince Caspian; The Voyage of the Dawn Treader; The Silver Chair; and The Last Battle.

Chronicles of Narnia has been an undisputed all-time classic of fantasy literature, a series that has inspired generations. It appeals to readers of all ages, and is known to be a stellar entry point into the fantasy genre for children.

Netflix’s deal with The C.S. Lewis Company is the first time that the rights to all seven books have been held by a single entity. This is definitely proof of intent and huge ambition on behalf of Netflix.

So, we don’t really blame Netflix for needing some more time to get its plans in order because it is no joke to create a whole universe now, is it? Especially one that is already so beloved.

Also, the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic will not be helping them either.

Where to Stream the Chronicles of Narnia Movies?

In although meantime, since Narnianis already back in the public memory with this lovely prank, why not take a trip down the memory lane.

The books have seen multiple live-action and animated adaptations over the years, with the most recent ones being the early 2000’s films based on The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian are both available to stream on Disney+, Vudu, iTunes, YouTube and Prime Video. The third Narnia film, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, is available to stream on HBO Go, HBO Now, Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu, YouTube and Google Play.
