Earwig and the Witch: Previews The English Sub and Dub Version Trailer

Known as the Disney of Japan, Studio Ghibli yet again brings the same old magic with its new production, Earwig and the Witch.

This will mark as the studio’s first production since its 2014 release, “When Marnie Was There.”

Directed by Goro Miyazaki, Earwig and the Witch is a Japanese computer-animated television film based on the novel of the same name written by Diana Wynne Jones. Jones is also known for writing the 1986 novel which later inspired Studio Ghibli’s Howl’s Moving Castle.

GKIDS began streaming the English-subtitled version and an English-dubbed version of a new trailer for Studio Ghibli’s first CG feature, Earwig and the Witch. They have also announced the voice cast of the upcoming English language dubbed version of the Earwig and the Witch.

The movie is set to air on December 30th by NHK.

The trailer features Earwig, a young orphan who is adopted by a witch. Later, she stumbles upon a collection of old vinyl records of a rock band which was led by her mother. She settles in her new magical home listening to the good old vinyl records and discovering potions and spells.

The video features Kacey Musgraves’ English cover of the film’s theme song “Don’t Disturb Me.”

The 82-minute feature will air on the NHK General channel on Wednesday, December 30 from 7:30 to 8:53 p.m.

The Cannes Film Festival has chosen the feature as part of its Official Selection this year. GKIDS is set to release the feature in theaters in North America in early 2021.

Though Earwig is Studio Ghibli’s first CG animated movie, they are set to return to their traditional animation path with their next feature, “How Do You Live?.”

Directed by the Co-founder of Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki, this movie will be his first feature since 2013’s “The Wind Rises.”

About Earwig and the Witch

The original novel, written by Diana Wynne Jones, was published by HarperCollins in 2011.

The story follows Earwig (Aya in the Japanese version), who enjoys living in St. Morwald’s Home for Children. She was dropped by the orphanage’s doorstep as a baby and was well looked after.

One day she gets adopted by a strange couple, who locks her in a mysterious house with magic in every corner of it. She decides to break free from the house, teaching a lesson to the evil witch.
