Drifters Season 2 Release Date, News & Visuals

Drifters is essentially a dark fantasy war that brings together history’s most infamous figures into one big oddball package. The last episode of season 1 of Drifters aired on December 23, 2016.

The anime is adapted from the manga titled “Drifters,” as well. Drifters had built a strong fan base during the time it was aired, even though three OVAs were released after the first season ended, the fans were waiting for season 2.

1. Release Date

At the end of season 1, there was an announcement made by the studio that there will be a renewal, but the year wasn’t specified. The year was written as “20XX”.

Drifters Season 2 updates

According to insider reports, the show is still in the screenwriting phase, and it will probably be released in late 2021. There is no fixed date released yet.

2. Theory Section

There was speculation that there is not enough content for a second season.

However, the studio has released three OVAs; the manga does not have enough material to support a second season, maybe that is why it is taking them so long to give this hit show a renewal.

I. Financial Standings

The manga has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide in five different languages. There is no information about the money made by the show.

II. Animation Quality

The fans really appreciated the artwork of the show, but the animation was somewhat crowded, it felt that less effort was made in detailing the battle scenes. (Score-7/10)

III. Was season 1 any good?

Every show has its good and bad points, so does this show. The pace of the story was good and strategic planning before the battles were very much essential, even though some fans might feel it was unnecessary, I think that logistics part is what made the show enjoyable.

But amidst all this, there was some stupid humor which was just worthless. If someone has a little knowledge of Japanese history, the show becomes more interesting.

IV. Kouta Hirano’s Health

Kouta Hirano is most famous for his mangas Hellsing and Drifters. After almost three years, Kouto released the 6th volume of Drifters in January 2020. Since the manga is being released at regular intervals, the writer’s health ought to be good.

3. Production Update

A second season was delayed for so long because of a lack of material to build a good anime.

Now that the second season is under the process, COVID-19 may hamper the release of the show and could push the release date further away than what the studio must have planned.

4. New Teaser & Key Visuals

There is no new teaser and key visuals for the second season.
