Dragon Ball Super Ch. 61: Vegeta’s Much Coveted Power-Up

Dragon Ball Super continues the story of Dragon Ball Z after Goku defeats Majin Boo. The latest chapter 61 is a continuation of the Galaxy Patrol Prisoner Saga with Moro as the antagonist. Just as Moro has defeated Goku, Vegeta appears along with a super power-up.

In chapter 61, Vegeta charges at Moro while incessantly punching him. Moro doesn’t seem to take much damage at first and even flings Vegeta to a distance, yet Vegeta keeps attacking Moro.

Although it looks like Vegeta is going berserk for not being strong enough, the reality is the complete opposite.

Vegeta’s New Move

Vegeta’s attacks start looking more and more potent as Moro starts getting weaker. After constantly sparring, Vegeta deals a sharp jab to Moro, which makes him cough up a ball of energy. This is the same energy that Moro had consumed from the Namekians and other creatures.

Vegeta admits that this new power is called “Forced Spirit Fission.” As the name suggests, Vegeta can extract the life energy which had been consumed by Moro.

He then returns this energy to its original owners, and some life on New Namek is restored. Moro is visually getting weaker by the second.

Why does it suit Vegeta?

“Forced Spirit Fission” is a move that couldn’t even be mastered by Goku, but with enough devotion, Vegeta has attained it. This particular power is all the more suited to Vegeta as he prefers to fight in a straightforward manner.

He does not like hiding behind greater powers or using other’s energy to increase one’s own power. Thus he strips away Moro of all the acquired life energy and taunts him to fight with his own strength.

On the other hand, Goku is all about fighting stronger opponents. He much prefers his opponents at their most robust so that he can exert himself.

Another thing to be noted is that he used the accumulated energy from Earth to defeat Freiza and Majin Boo.

Goku’s “Spirit Bomb” is the exact opposite of Vegeta’s “Forced Spirit Fusion.” While Goku gathers the energy of his surroundings into a massive ball of energy, Vegeta has the power to disseminate the combined life force and return it to the actual owners.

This also means Vegeta has acquired the technique to weaken Goku’s “Spirit Ball” attack.

Vegeta’s Redemption

This battle of Vegeta seems to be his redemption arc. While Vegeta worked for Freiza, he had wreaked havoc on Namek and many other planets and also killed numerous people.

By trying his best to save Earth, he seems to be getting over his past sins. Vegeta has indeed changed since his first violent and haughty appearance.

Vegeta’s power up seemed to be working well as it caught Moro off guard; however, Moro has a backup plan ready. He manages to fly back to Saganbo’s spaceship, where he devours seven-three, within whom he had created a backup of his powers and abilities.

Goku senses Moro’s restored and perhaps increased chi. Soon, Moro descends in a stronger appearance, leading all of Vegeta’s efforts to waste.

This ending seems unfair to Vegeta as he couldn’t get the upper hand even after attaining a new & powerful skill. Once again, the only hope left is Goku.
